LONG JUMP
(Ages 6-18) The long jump is a track and field event in which the athlete combines technique, speed and strength in order to leap as far as possible from a take-off board into a sand pit. Recommended strides are age-based, with the number of strides matching the age of the jumper. The approach run up should be marked by placing the heel of the non-take off foot on the scratch line and running the number of strides that matches your age. This is a good starting point to gauge the run up, but several attempts, and a good steady run-up will determine the ‘final mark’ which should be used.
